Articulating the Work
-
"You know how a lot of … do …? Well, we do it __________ way instead."
- You know how a lot of men struggle with a lack of purpose, or with boredom and addictions? Well, what we do is help them to get clear on what they’re here to do and how to live from a place of more authenticity. For example, they go from going through the motions in life to actually taking ownership of creating their lives and enjoying it. And the way that we do that is through shadow work, inner child parenting, nervous system regulation, fear exposure, and embodiment.

‘Start With Why’ Clarifying Questions:
-
Why do you do what you do?
- I grew up my whole life in fear. I was undocumented. My family has been my biggest testament as to how people die, not suddenly, but day by day, in a meaningless job, in a loveless marriage, in a connectionless home. I’ve spent as long as I remember looking for a way out of this prison. I do what I do because it’s what I needed to continue living.
-
What is it really about for you at a deeper level?
- At a deeper level, it’s about living a FULL life. A life that’s not just going through the motions, but actually engaging with life, and creating something that one can be happy dying to.
-
If your work with someone is really successful, what is the impact of that on their lives?
- They would feel more in their body. They would give more in their relationship. They would make active changes to their life if it was boring. They would continue seeking a meaning, if they didn’t have one. They would be free of addictions. They would feel more connected to the world around them.
-
If everyone on the planet got the full benefit of the work you offer, what would that mean for the world?
- The world would be more loving, freer, and lighter. There would be interdependence, collaboration, empathy.
-
If you had to sum up the deeper purpose of your work in three words, what would they be?
- Rewilded. Life. Fully-lived.
Metaphor Clarifying Questions:
-
Metaphorically, what is it like for your clients to be struggling with their problem? How do they experience it? In that metaphor, who are you? What role are you playing in that metaphor? (e.g. If it feels like they’re trapped in jail, are you someone who breaks them out?)
-
It’s like they’re walking a path that’s well marked. They can see the path leading to a nice house. It’s a well groomed path. There’s no danger in sight. This is the same path that their friends and kins have walked. But they feel no satisfaction walking it. It’s almost as if they’re not even walking it themselves, but they’re kinda just moving through it.
-
There’s another path they see. It’s fully covered and they have to bushwhack their way through it, if they were to follow this path. They can’t see what’s on the end of this path, but they’re so curious.
-
They’re more curious about this unknown path than the known.
-
I’m the one who hands them a scythe/axe/whacker and who tells them that it’s OK to bushwhack through that other path.
-
-
Metaphorically, from the outside, describe the situation of your ideal clients when they come to you. In that metaphor, who are you? What role are you playing in that metaphor? (e.g. If it feels like they’re trapped in jail, are you someone who breaks them out?)
-
They are lifeless, loveless, hopeless. They’ve been going through the motions for a while. They might not be in a relationship, and if they are, there’s no romance there anymore, and neither of them know how to exit or reinvigorate the relationship. There’s a job, but it’s boring and not exciting at all. It’s comforting, without any juice.
-
It’s almost as if they’re sleepwalking through their life, without any control of their own.
-
I’m the one who comes to their door, stands in front of them, shakes them out of their slumber, and tells them to wake up.
