Returned to civilization after a month in the jungle. It’s been a hard contrast, the craziness of the town of Iquitos and the Amazon jungle an hour away. Constant hustle and bustle as opposed to lots of silence broken up by chickens and frogs, artificial lights and sounds as opposed to two hours of electricity every day and nothing but natural other wise.
In a way, it’s a metaphor for the contrast between the life I’ve grown up living and the life that I got to experience, and the people I got to meet.
I was healing the last month. Ceremonies after ceremonies, purging night in and night out (and starting out with some mornings that way as well), drinking nothing but water made out of various plants, and spending time with plants. So. Many. Master. Plants.
Diseases and disorders that no Western doctor could cure in me, let alone diagnose; a man that has spent his whole time working with plants did for me in 26 days. More powerful than any doctor, and yet the most humble. Through him, his family, and friends, one can really appreciate how simple a life can be led, and how a simple life is an easy life. Less times on our phones and in communion with the divine, learning from spirits greater than we can ever fully analyze. Instead of racing against everyone to survive, collaborating with every one and every being to thrive.
My favorite word is awe, and I experienced so much of that, just through simplicity.
There’s still lots to process and integrate as I leave this crazy little town and go off to the next place, but what feels important right now is to be in awe of the magic that is life. Healing is all around us. Its always been. We’ll keep trying to, but there is no need to manufacture or create anything.
Off to a twenty two hour bus ride, I go.
